Child Care
Pre-School
The Pre-School is a safe, caring and nurturing environment that provides year round child care. The program promotes social, emotional and cognitive development for children from the ages of three to five. The program also houses two full day, private kindergarten classes. Breakfast, lunch and a snack are provided each day. Licensed by the State of Delaware

Before and After School Care Program
This program focuses on developmental learning activities to stimulate educational, physical and social development for youth aged six to twelve. The program provides transportation from local schools, tutoring, dinner and recreational activities.


Rocky Run Day Camp
Rocky Run Day Camp provides recreational and cultural enrichment to children between the ages of six and twelve. The program includes trips to museums culture events, structured academic programs, arts and crafts, swimming, sports, life skills and lunch. The camp runs for nine weeks during the summer.

Learning Center

Computer Literacy
Computer literacy class provides basic computer skills for those interested in learning the Internet, word, excel and other software packages. Classes are conducted in our state of the art computer lab.


Tutoring
After school tutoring is provided by state certified teachers in core curriculum subjects. Homework assignments, SAT preparation, aptitude test are taught to school age children.


Betty Shabazz Delta Academy
The Betty Shabazz Delta Academy is designed to encourage girls between the ages of 11 and 14 to pursue careers in the fields of Math and Science. The Betty Shabazz Delta Academy is sponsored and conducted by volunteers members of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

Crisis Alleviation

 

Emergency Assistance

This multi-dimensional program provides short-term assistance to individuals and families facing financial crisis. Families in need of utility, rental, clothing, funeral assistance or temporary shelter must partake in an intake process. Documentation of family size, income and available living expenses are required.

Food Closet

The Food Closet is stocked with perishable and non-perishable items. The Food Closet is available to individuals and families experiencing difficulty meeting their nutritional needs. The Food Closet is open to the community on Monday & Thursday 9:30 AM to 12 PM.  Patrons must bring their own bags for food.

Clothing Closet

Open to the public every Tuesday 10 AM to 12 PM. Patrons must bring bags for clothing.

Donations

Peoples Settlement gladly accepts your tax-deductible donation of clothing or furniture.  Donations are accepted by our Crisis/Family Services Department or can be arranged for pick-up. To arrange a pick-up of your tax-deductible donation contact our Family Services Department at (302) 658-4133, Ext. 301


Senior Center
Senior Transportation
This program provides transportation to and from the Senior Center, recreational outings, medical visits and shopping at drug store and malls. These trips are provided free of charge.

Senior Nutrition
The Senior Nutrition program provides nutritional meals on-site and homebound meals for those who are unable to leave their home due to illness and are in need of balanced meals. Hot meals are delivered between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Social Support and Recreation
The Social Support and Recreation program is designed to counteract the feeling of isolation and loneliness that many senior citizens experience. Daily recreational activities include ceramics, table games, sewing classes, drama groups, walking, Bible study exercise and trips.

Youth Services

Otis Heady, Jr. Youth Center
The Otis Heady, Jr. Youth Center provides a haven for youth. The center sponsors cultural, recreation and enrichment activities. The center also contains several pool tables, video games, air hockey and other games.


Delaware Prevention Network
Also known as DPN, this program provides drug prevention activities, field trips, drill teams, athletics and other activities. Group meetings for parents are held each month.


Sports and Athletics
PSA youth participate in individual and team sports including karate, football, baseball, basketball, softball and flag football.

Addictions Program

Family Support Partnership
The Family Support Partnership provides a link between community residents and service providers for assistance and case management with employers, job training, housing, food, childcare, health services or any other problems affecting an individual or family.


Narcotics Anonymous
Narcotics Anonymous is a support group for individuals seeking recovery from drug or alcohol addiction. The program uses the 'Twelve Step' model of recovery. The only requirement for membership is the desire to “remain drug free”. Meetings are held every Sunday from 12:00 until 2:30 p.m. and are free of charge.


Addictions
PSA provides a referral intake service for clients who are seeking entry to a residential drug or alcohol treatment program, outpatient services and prevention services throughout New Castle County.


Parent Education & Support Groups
Parents wanting to strengthen their families and learn of various resources that may improve the quality of life. Groups meet either weekly or monthly to share information.

The Urban Health and Environment Learning Project
(UHELP)

A collaboration between Peoples Settlement Association, Henrietta Johnson Medical Center, and the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy at the University of Delaware.  Our mission is to be a source of information, awareness, and referral to residents in our target communities regarding health and environmental issues. Our target communities are Wilmington's Northeast, Eastside, Southbridge, and Route 9 Corridor communities north of Interstate 295.

Health Screenings
Wellness programs are designed to assist individuals in their quest for a drug free and healthy lifestyle. The program provides a holistic approach to health and wellness by providing blood pressure screenings, flu shots, pregnancy prevention, residential treatment referrals, one on one and group counseling, HIV/AIDS prevention education and various cancer screenings.


Aerobics “Pump Up the Volume”
Twice a week a certified aerobics instructor will provide low impact workouts for those choosing to live a healthy lifestyle. The classes are free of charge and provide formative information on health, fitness, and nutrition.
